Welcome to Hoikusapōto English
Our Mission and Founding Purpose
In response to Japan’s prolonged economic stagnation, an increasing number of mothers have sought employment while raising children — leading to a sharp rise in the number of children on waiting lists for childcare. While local governments and the national government have taken steps to address this issue, including relaxing facility requirements under the Child Welfare Act, concerns have emerged about the potential decline in childcare quality, especially with the rise of unregulated daycare centers operating in inadequate environments.
Moved by these challenges, we founded the Specified Nonprofit Corporation “Hoikusapōto” Center to support the well-being of children by offering individual consultations, workplace-based training, and practical assistance for both parents and childcare workers. As an NPO, our mission is to ensure that families — especially those with limited resources — and childcare professionals can access trustworthy, affordable support.
Our board is composed of individuals with diverse backgrounds, including experienced nursery teachers, early childhood educators, journalists, and parents with lived experiences raising children with disabilities or navigating divorce. United by compassion and a shared sense of responsibility, we aim to create a society where children can thrive and every caregiver receives the support they need.
